People and Teamwork

Believing in People and Teamwork is second nature to us. It means...

Caring about all People - they hold the key to FCC's success

Ever since our formation, the accessibility team has been concerned with the entire congregational needs.
We employ services which gives our people support and shows we care. A good example is our OAT teams (Outside Access Team), which will greet, and assist if needed, all to our services.

Listening to hearts and minds through participation

The Accessibility Team was formed in order to recognize those of our congregation that have special challenges and needs, and to answer them to the best of our ability. We believe that through innovative means we are offering dignity, awareness, and success.

Services Provided by the Team

Accessible parking

There are seven marked parking spaces in the back parking lot by the chapel entrance. Several curb cuts are included with these spaces to accommodate wheel chairs. Upon entering the large double doors, which can be opened automatically, an elevator is located immediately inside.

Two Special Needs Parking spaces are available at the front of the church, close to the main front entrance, for anyone needing extra assistance, such as mothers with small children, etc. A handicapped sticker is not required to park there.

Outdoor Accessibility team

A member of this team, identified by their red vest, is stationed at each main entrance (front or chapel) to assist anyone who may need a little extra help.

Restrooms

Bathrooms are available on each floor, and Companion bathrooms are available on the main floor to the left of the elevator.

Wheelchairs available

Wheelchairs are available at the accessible entrance (back, chapel entrance), and there are dedicated larger spaces to accommodate wheelchairs in the sanctuary.

Readable Bulletins

Large Print Bulletins are available from the ushers.

Hearing Assist Devices.

Headphones that are directly connected to the sanctuary microphone outputs are available from the ushers stationed in the narthex.

Buddies for Children

Buddies (trained adults) are available to any child who needs extra support or assistance to enable them to participate in any of the childrens programs of the church.

Access Sunday

Each year we hold a Sunday service to celebrate the gifts of those with disabilities, and to built awareness and support for children and adults who have disabilities and their families.

### LOOP SYSTEM IS HERE! ###
Click to view full sizeA grant to help cover the expenses of installing a 'Loop' system in our Sanctuary that was submitted to the Illinois Conference Council of UCC, was recently approved. Along with this, with the generosity of the Women and Men Associations, we were able to cover the cost of the entire installation.

The system was installed this last week and verification tests were run. These tests performed flawlessly. This Sunday the system will be turned on, and all recipients that have a T-coil in their hearing aids will enjoy the sermon and programs without adjustments.
